Mehdi Hassan

Mehdi Hassan is universally known as the finest ghazal singer of all times. He is also referred as King of Ghazals and gain immense popularity among music lovers around the world. He was born in India in the village of Luna in Rajasthan in 1927. He was 20 when he migrated to Pakistan after the partition of India and had to undergo severe financial crisis. But among all these diffcult times his passion for music did not die.

Mehdi Hassan got his first break to sing on Radio Pakistan in 1952. He continued his marvellous career as a playback singer and sung thousands of beautiful songs. He loves Urdu poetry and started singing ghazals for famous poets of his times. His unique style of singing and his unsurpassable vocal range makes him the King of ghazals. He was hugely appreciated for his soulful singing by masses and got several national awards. Mehdi Hassan in his ghazal gayaki was able to capture the mood of the ghazal through the use of raag. Some of his popular songs are Ranjish hi sahi, Pyar bhare do sharmile nain, Dekh to dil ki jaaN se uthta hai.
