Abida Parveen is a popular Pakistani singer of ghazal, Sufi and Punjabi folk songs. She is the daughter of prominent Pakistani vocalist Ustad Ghulam Haider. She got her training from the great Salamat Ali Khan. Abida Parveen was born in 1954 in Larkana, Sindh in Pakistan. Her singing career took off after she get married to Ghulam Hussain Sheikh who was a senoir producer in Radio Pakistan. There is a strong influence of Begum Akhtar in her singing. She had great command over ornamentation and notes. She revives the Sufi music and gave it a new dimension with her powerful and soulful voice and beautiful rendition of classical music. Her album Faiz by Abida, released by Times Music, was featured on the international world music charts and the album got at number 12 among the top 20.
